A Canadian Collector’s favourite: the vintage Mason Jar! A growing trend in the DIY and Pinterest pages is the Crown Mason Jars (with Clear Glass and Zinc Lid) Made In Canada.
Did you know the history of the Mason Jar: In 1795 Napoleon offered a 12,000 franc prize for a method to preserve food for the military. Chef Nicholas Appert, whose background included both pickling and brewing, won the prize by developing a method of heating food in glass containers and sealing them with pitch. The Crown Jars take their name from John Landis Mason. Mason was a young inventor who came up with the concept of a metal screw-on lid in 1858
