In Celebration of ‘Greenery’, Pantone’s Colour of the Year!
Every year I eagerly wait for Pantone to announce their ‘Colour of the Year’ knowing that their showcased colour will be impactful, with a meaningful colour story….and this year’s colour doesn’t disappoint! Greenery in all its luscious glory; a revitalizing, refreshing and much needed pop of enthusiasm to define the entire year! Think about it for a moment – after a long cold, and mostly grey coloured winter, it’s invigorating to see that first emergence of green growth in the Spring! The exhilarating feeling of fresh new life, revival and the optimism of new beginnings, re-enforcing the importance of life, the people we share it with, and the environment.
According to Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, “Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.”
Better known as ‘Nature’s Neutral’, Greenery will seamlessly make its way into all aspects of our lives, and easily so, as we are used to seeing it all around us. This zesty yellow-undertoned green combines the effects of both colours; it has the ability to gently relax us mentally and physically while shining with optimism, enlightenment and happiness…exactly what we need to counteract the fast-paced world of technology that has changed how we live and interact with one another.
The emerging and refreshing social trend of bringing families back into the kitchen, combined with our obsession for improved health and wellness, has prompted a return to green gardening – in our yards, on rooftops, windowsills and living walls, bringing the colour, texture and life of Greenery naturally into our homes. We are cooking and juicing more than ever and kitchen design both indoors and outdoors has become increasing more prevalent, incorporating small and large appliances, cookware and cabinetry in this zesty new shade.
