Three Amazing Ceilings You’ll Love From Kate Campbell’s Home
Kate Campbell is an incredibly talented contractor who was kind enough to invite us over to see her latest renovation project… her very own home! Kate and her husband Dave have been working hard at renovating an old farmhouse in rural Ontario. It was very clear from the before pictures they shared that the home had come a long way since we had stepped foot inside. It was hard to envision what the old house looked like since the new design was jaw-dropping gorgeous!
Before we continue gawking at Kate’s beautiful home let’s get down to the title of this post which is ceilings. Ceilings were the design feature in each room. We’ve never seen such creative design placed in ceilings before.“I love designing and building,” exclaims Kate, “and have found over the years that ceilings are often an after thought. As you can see in my own house — there are so many ways to create a beautiful ceiling (the sky is the limit?!!) Let your imagination go wild!”
With a little help from Kate herself, here are three ceilings found at her lovely home! She’s also in the process of completing another ceiling which uses SnapClip. “SnapClip is a beautiful all access basement ceiling alternative that will knock your socks off! I can’t wait to show off the finished product,” says Kate.
Main Bathroom Ceiling:
Kate: I’m renovating/restoring a 150 year old farmhouse so when I can, I use what materials are given to me by this beautiful building! Although we had to rip up all of the sub floor in this house – my husband and I tried to preserve it as much as possible so that we could re-use it when needed! It was absolutely beautiful lumber — 1-1/2” thick tongue and groove boards. One of the most incredible things about older houses is the character that they posses in their ceilings. The bathroom has this beautiful cathedral ceiling but I wanted to accent how beautiful it really was. That being said, I decided to repurpose the subfloor and use it on the ceiling! I took the lumber to our Custom Built shop, planed it down and put a whitewash stain on it – we trimmed it out and voila! It ended up being the showpiece of the entire washroom. There’s something to be said about the natural beauty of lumber and how drawn we are to it. I absolutely love the result!
Master Bedroom Ceiling:
Kate:This room was SO fun! It’s at the back of the house and originally it started as three very choppy rooms with a simple A-frame roof. We completely restructured the space, taking out all of the walls and we also completely ripped off the roof thanks to a beautiful design idea from our Architect/Engineer Duy Nguyen of N-Cubed Designs. To structure the roof we used big LVL beams that were left exposed when the room was done. It created this architectually devine ceiling in the main bedroom but we still had to find the perfect way to cover the big blue LVL beams. Thats where Josh from The Hollow Timber Co stepped in and created a masterpiece! Those beams are all completely hollow and were installed in less than a day. Stunning! And to cap it off, I used a beautiful chandelier from Progress Lighting to create a rustic, elegant juxtaposition.
Sunroom ceiling:
Kate: I also had to restructure this room (taking out load bearing walls) and in restructuring, I found that I could create a little nook in the ceiling as an accent. I’m always trying to find different ways to use lighting and this nook ended up being the perfect place for me to place a cluster of lights, again from Progress Lighting, that ended up perfectly accenting the space. I used five lights hanging at different lengths and placed at different locations in the ceiling to create this cluster and I love it!!
