Our Top 3 Old Fashioned Halloween Treats
We’re turning the clocks back and finding some great old fashioned recipes that are perfect for any Halloween gathering. It’s important to keep it simple and have fun! These recipes should please any spooky guests that you might find at your party.
Caramel Apples
To make caramel you can make your own or melt square caramel candies, it’s your choice!Our recipe uses the caramel candies since it is easier and doesn’t require a candy thermometer. Roll them in any crushed candy or nut of your choice. We decided to go with toasted pecans. This recipe makes between 4-5 caramel apples
Ingredients
- 4-5 medium sized apples
- 30 wrapped caramel squares
- 2 Tbsp. of water
- 4-5 popsicle sticks
- 1-2 cups chopped candy/nuts (optional)
Directions
- Get about 30 wrapped caramel squares and unwrap them. Set aside. Prep any candies/nuts you might want to use to dip the apples in after.
- Get 4-5 apples (depending on the size) and give them a rinse. Pull out the stem, and stick a popsicle stick into where the stem was.
- Line a baking tray with parchment paper and place the apples on the tray.
- In a medium sized pot melt the caramel squares with the water on low heat.
- Once melted start dipping the apples in the caramel and follow with the crushed candies/nuts. If the caramel cools you will have to put it on low heat to melt again before dipping the next apple
- Let cool and enjoy! These Caramel apples are best enjoyed the day of!
Popcorn Balls
These homemade delicacies will never get old! Once the tuckered trick or treaters return from a long night out you’ll want these poppin’ popcorn balls! This recipe makes about 12 popcorn balls
Ingredients
- 15 cups of popped popcorn
- 1 bag of mini marshmallows
- 1/4 cup butter
- sprinkle of salt
- 1 cup chopped candy/nuts or 1/4 cup seasonal sprinkles.
Directions
- Pop your popcorn and place it in a large bowl with the chopped candy/nuts or sprinkles.
- Line a baking tray with parchment paper and set aside.
- In a large pot combine marshmallows, butter, and, salt. Heat until everything is melted
- Once everything has melted add the popcorn and candies/sprinkles. Give it a good stir. Let cool slightly.
- Cover your hands in a tiny bit of oil and start making popcorn balls! Be careful, it might still be hot. You can Also wear plastic sandwich bags to protect your hands a little.
- Let cool and enjoy!

Pumpkin Spiced Pumpkin Seeds
The fun of carving a pumpkin gets delicious when you take the time to remove the seeds, roast and season them. This is an easy solution that is also resourceful! This recipe makes about 1 1/2 cups of roasted seeds, but it really depends on the pumpkin!
Ingredients
- pumpkin seeds from recently carved pumpkin or squash
- 2 tbsp. melted butter/oil
- 1 tsp. pumpkin spice
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1-2 cups other nuts if there were not enough seeds (optional)
Directions
- Heat oven to 350°F.
- Rinse pumpkin seeds so that they are ready to get toasted.
- Coat pumpkin seeds in a little oil.
- In a small bowl combine the sugar and spices.
- Line a baking tray with parchment paper and place the coated pumpkin seeds on the tray. Bake for 10 min. Remove from oven, flip seeds and add sugary topping.
- Return to oven and bake for another 10 min, flip seeds and continue this process until the seeds are golden brown.
- Let cool and enjoy!
